Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Hathorn Funeral Home for John Lewis Davis, 89, of Columbia, who died on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Burial followed in Society Hill Cemetery. Rev. Mark MacArthur and Rev. Brian Malone officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Marion County. He served his nation faithfully as a member of the United States Air Force in the Korean War. He worked in several different fields, but many remember him serving as operator of the Goss Community Water Association up until his late seventies. He was a quiet, simple man that loved his God, his family and his church. He served them all faithfully.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Warrene Williams Davis; parents, John Watts and Alice Sanders Davis; one brother, La Rue Davis; and two sisters, Hattie Mae Summers and Alice Ann Ennis.
Survivors include his three sons, William Keith Stuckey (Jackie), John Warren Davis (Belinda) and Kevin Matthew Davis (Cynthia), all of Columbia; one daughter, Debra Eileen Davis of Columbia; one brother, Harold Ray Davis of Tylertown; two sisters, Virginia Nan Hathorn (David) and Clara Jane Speights, both of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Jody Stuckey, Todd Stuckey (Tabitha), Ashley Clark, Anna Brumfield (Michael), Arynn Stuckey, Mandi Chance (Charlie), Lindsay Grant (Jeremy), Nicole Greer (Deryk) and Taylor Merritt (David); 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Daulton Turnage, Elijah Nibert, Riley Turnage, Myles Clark, Cameron Clark and Benjamin Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Keagan Martin, Chandler Beard, Cade Stuckey and Alec Fortenberry.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Goss Baptist Church.
