Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home for Lloyd Broom, 88, of Columbia, who passed away on Tuesday, April 16, in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Manton Broom Family Cemetery. Bro. Dewitt Bain, Dr. Rick Clark, Bro. Ed Steele and Bro. Neal Breeland officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, April 20, at Colonial Funeral Home.
He worked as a truck driver and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music and was devoted to his family, often cooking for family gatherings, especially on Sundays. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manton Broom and Frances Pace Broom; sister, Carrie Bell Bass; and brothers, Ezell Broom, Rheadus Broom and Clifton Broome.
His memory will be forever cherished by his wife of 70 years, Charlsie Broom; daughter, Theresa Stringer; son, Jerry Broom (Robin); brother, John Broom; five grandchildren, Stephanie McCormick (Scott), Jason Stringer (Kim), Steven Stringer (Tanna), Chris Broom (Haley) and D’Anna McMahan (Will); and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Cameron Broom, Tyler Stringer, Glen Patterson, Kevin Lucus, Jeff Broom and Keith Lucus. Honorary pallbearers were Landon Broom and Easton McMahan.
