Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Marie Elizabeth Sandifer, 80, of Columbia, who passed away on Aug. 12, with family and friends by her side. A celebration of life followed the funeral services. Rev. Chris Camille officiated at the service.
She was born in Darbun to Lorraine “Mawmaw” Pounds. The two were extremely close and remained so even after she married Gordon Sandifer, her recently deceased husband of 63 years.
She was at heart a nurturer. She raised three children, Todd, Kelley and Mechelle, often making beautiful clothes for them as well as serving great southern meals at dinnertime when they all gathered around the table. In addition to being an amazing seamstress, she loved to crochet. You knew she loved you if you were gifted one of her crocheted table cloths to use on your own family table. She also loved plants of all kinds and the family dogs that were lucky enough to find a home with her.
Survivors include her son, Todd Sandifer (Joy); daughters, Kelley Lucy (Brent) and Mechelle Barnes; six grandchildren, Vivian Sandifer, Elena Sandifer, Garrison Lucy, Hannah Marie Lucy, Raeleigh Lucy and Arleigh Little; and sister, Joyce Faye Hutchins.
