Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Melissa Jo Creel, 49, of Pearl, who passed away on Friday, Feb. 7. Burial followed in Kokomo Community Cemetery in Kokomo. Rev. Kevin Shows officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Melissa, a woman of vibrant personality and indomitable spirit, passed away at her home. Known for her fiery temper and her uncanny ability to "talk crap" with the best of them, she was a force to be reckoned with. She tackled any challenge with unwavering determination, whether it was conquering the next level in Candy Crush or conquering the garden with her green thumb. A skilled cook and canner, she loved sharing the fruits of her labor with loved ones. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and the lasting impact she made on those around her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Ann Wilkes Pilgrim; and brother, Charles Chuck Creel.
Survivors include her son, Blake McKenzie; two daughters, Jessica McKenzie and Stephanie Staggs; life partner, Steven Page Jr.; father, C.W. Creel; father, Mike Pilgrim; mother, Cindy Pilgrim; four grandchildren, Arcue Cue Sanchez, Kaysen Bryant, Amelia Millie Staggs and Carter Bryant; two sisters, Brandi Wilmoth (Bert) and Shannon Thomason (David); and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends;
Pallbearers were Brian Franks, Wade Creel, Tyler Creel, Colby Creel and Dakota Wilmoth.
