A celebration of life and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at Edna Baptist Church for Rev. Jackie E. Cooke, 81, of the Darbun Community, who passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Collins. Burial followed in Magee’s Creek Cemetery. Rev. Kenny Peavey officiated at the service.
He faithfully and unapologetically preached the Word of God for 48 years, served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Army. He taught school for several years and dedicated his life to his family and pastoring others. He enjoyed putting others first, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gale Magee Cooke; father, Edward Forrest Cooke; mother, Lorene Nash Cooke; and stepmother, Trudie Cooke.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Shoemaker Cooke; son, Len Cooke (Tracey); daughter, Lorie Cooke; stepson, Justin Southerland (Shelly); stepdaughter, Jeni Rhea Delorenzo (Kent); grandchildren, Jordan Maske (Cody), Logan Cooke (Mary Menger), Kaden Dale (Jana), Jackson Dale, Alexis Hendry, Jaiden Southerland, Ashtyn Southerland, Taylor Berry and Jordan Grenier (Adrian); brother, Glenn Cooke (Charlotte); sisters, Barbara Moseley and Erma Arnold (Garland); and great-grandchildren, Cooper Jack Cooke, James Tate Cooke, Brooks Dale and Seiko Grenier.
Hathorn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
