Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home for William A. “Bill” Carroll Jr., 92, of Columbia, who passed from this life into God’s presence on Sunday, Aug. 27. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Ken Roberts officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the services on Monday, Sept. 4, at Colonial Funeral Home.
He was born in Hattiesburg to William A. Carroll Sr. and Mary Alice Carroll. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served our country during the Korean Conflict. After separating from the Army, he settled in Columbia working as a pharmacist. In 1967, he opened Sav-On-Drugs in Columbia, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Ole Miss football. He was a man of faith and served his community and his Lord through his membership with First Baptist Church of Columbia. He was devoted to his family whom he loved deeply. He will be remembered as a good man who was generous to a fault and was always willing to help anyone with a need. He was a man of his word and was always grateful for his blessings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hatch and Martha Noe; a daughter, Rhonda Holmes; and a grandson, Doug Reagan.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Nona Carroll; two daughters, Deborah McDaniel (Donnie) and Ann Lewis (Tim); two sons, John Carroll and Jamie Carroll (Art Cook); a brother, Martin “DD” Carroll (Marilyn); five grandchildren, Donna Holmes, Austin Holmes (Savannah), Robbie McDaniel, Allison McDaniel and Timothy Lewis; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jamie Carroll, Art Cook, Keaton Green, Ed Green, Harry Carroll, and Nicholas Davis.
