Editor’s Note: Rita Stuart of Columbia wrote this poem, which is entitled “America’s Foundation.”
Why is one nation weak
Yet another nation strong
Each is only as strong as its foundation
A foundation is either right or wrong
Why does a nation fall
The answer to this question I did seek
And quickly learned it was because
The foundation was too weak
Many say the foundation of our society
Has been destroyed and is about to fall
This is said because mankind has been
Dropping lower and lower in view of all
We are falling lower because to
God we give no service or worship
Today as Americans we put self
Before God — why do we slip
Our society is lazy, doesn't want
To work, rather be sloth
Much needs to be done
According to the Bible and men of cloth
Laws can't control a society
I'll tell you where control must start
By moral and religious principles
It must start within the heart
The downfall of men and nations
Is always an inside job, a weakness within
Words of more trust have never been spoken
Do we want to continue this sin?
