Please count me among the folks congratulating the Entrekins for their purchase of the Columbia Country Club. THANK YOU!
When I opened my first McDonald’s restaurant in Columbia in 1982, the CCC was the social hub of Columbia and Marion County. It was there that I met, played golf with, and socialized with the people I would do business with for the next 30 years.
Every Friday and Saturday night year round someone was cooking out at the clubhouse and everyone and anyone was welcomed.
The Club was rented out constantly for various civic activities and tournaments.
The annual 4-Ball Invitational Golf Tournament, a 3 day event in August every year was a huge draw - 80 or so of some of the best golfers from all over Mississippi, their spouses, girl friends, etc. participated Meals, luncheons for the ladies, and dinners held every day. The Friday night party and calcutta (betting on winners) were held. A steak dinner on Saturday night followed by a live band and dance. Those were the glory days!
With some hard work from the Entrekins and hopefully many local volunteers, over time, CCC can be revived. The hiring of David Pate is huge. We’ve all worked with him and he has been through it all. He’s got his PGA card and was heavily involved in CCC during the good days. He will have a vision.
