I was surprised to learn that 48 percent of folks surveyed by you last week were against the proposed hotel/restaurant tax – a tax which won’t affect more than 5 to 10 percent of our local people, if that many. Like how many of our locals will be staying in our motels and paying the tax? How many locals who eat out can’t afford to pay 30 cents more for a $10 meal or $1.20 more for a $40 meal? It’ll be paid for mostly by visitors and tourists from elsewhere.
The money is to be used to finance a sports complex for our youth and those in the area. Who doesn’t want to support that? A complex will bring in youth and teams from other towns for tournaments, etc. That means additional revenue for the city and businesses.
It will hardly be felt by our local folks, if at all – IT’S A NO BRAINER!
