Dear Editor,
Politicians do not listen.
In the issue of The Columbian-Progress dated June 21, there is an editorial by Mr. Charlie Smith. It refers to the Mississippi state flag, which in a 2001 referendum, showed 64 percent of Mississippi voters wanted to keep the existing state flag. In Mr. Smith’s editorial, he stated many prominent Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker and Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, have called for it, the flag, to be furled and transferred to history museums.
Well, if that’s how Sen. Wicker and Speaker Gunn feel, us 64 percent should “furl” them. These two politicians do not care what almost two thirds of Mississippi voters stand for. Vote them out of office.
