Intersession is an extra three days of school for students to learn and receive help in order to do better in class and on state tests.
All students at CES were able to enjoy a week off for Spring Break and then those attending the intercession days returned on March 20-22. While it was optional for students to attend, it was still open to everyone. Teachers were able to have small groups designed to target specific needs for the kids in their group.
The director of this program is Mrs. Danielle Whittington who organized the intercession days. There were ninety-five students who registered for intercession and third graders had the most participants out of any other grade at the school.
Mrs. Whitt said, “Teachers, administrators, and I all feel like it was successful because of the small, intensive and specific instruction given. The students were excited to come and wanted to know each afternoon what we got to do the next day.” She also said, “We wanted to make sure students had many opportunities they don’t always get to have. We had a drumming lab, offered yoga, a zen room, and a small group of fourth and fifth graders got to 3D print in STEM.”
Overall, students who attended the special three day intercession had a great time and didn’t want it to end. Many expressed that they wished intercession happened more regularly.
Next year the schedule
will include two more
opportunities for students to come to school and enjoy a smaller group throughout the year.
