Columbia—Pearl River Valley Electric line crews will be working to restore electric service to members affected by the severe thunderstorms and straight line winds that struck our area on Thursday, June 14th. Over 5,000 co-op members, mostly in Marion and Lamar counties are without electric service due to trees and limbs falling onto power lines.
“Our crews are busy working to restore power to areas affected by the thunderstorms that hit our service area,” said Matthew Ware, CEO/general manager. “We hope to have our member’s service restored in a timely and efficient manner.”
During large scale outages crews check substations first for damage, then work outward along major power lines to restore service to the greatest number of consumers as quickly as possible.
Safety of our members is a top concern. We urge people affected by the storms to heed these precautions.
- Damaged power lines are extremely dangerous, even if they appear to be out of service. Do not approach fallen or sagging power lines. Report them to PRVEPA immediately and warn others to stay away.
- Do not attempt to cut or remove trees from power lines.
- If you lose power, turn off switches on major electrical appliances, including water heaters and heating systems. After power comes back on, wait about 15 minutes then turn on the appliances one at a time.
- It’s also a good idea to turn on your porch light switch, so crews working in the area will know your power is restored.
