Governor Tate Reeves recently spoke at an event hosted by Comcast at the Bolton-Edwards Elementary/Middle School. During the event, the company announced that they completed a broadband expansion effort in the towns of Bolton and Edwards. The expansion reaches more than 1,700 homes and businesses.
“This broadband expansion and tremendously generous laptop donation by Comcast are a fantastic boost to the community in Bolton and Edwards,” said Governor Reeves. “The investment will help provide critical broadband access and support educational opportunities for Mississippi families. Thank you to Comcast for your continued work on this issue."
At the event, Comcast also announced that it had partnered with the Town of Bolton Development Corporation and surprised students from kindergarten to 8th grade at Bolton-Edwards Elementary/Middle School with free laptops.
Governor Reeves noted that the event complimented state efforts to expand broadband including through the creation of the Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM).
BEAM was created by legislation which Governor Reeves signed in 2022 and is working to manage a variety of grant programs that will invest in broadband expansion and improvement initiatives across Mississippi.
