JACKSON — Mississippi Press Association members, noted Jacksonians and fabled “Northsiders” will gather tonight (Feb. 6) for the MPA Education Foundation Celebrity Roast of Wyatt Emmerich.
Tickets sales continue for the event, which will be held at the Hilton Jackson in advance of MPA’s annual Mid-Winter Conference and McDavid Journalism Summit. Cocktail hour is at 6; dinner and the program follow at 7.
Emmerich, a third-generation newspaperman, is CEO of Jackson-based Emmerich Newspapers and publisher of The Northside Sun. He is a past MPA president and a past chairman of the MPA Education Foundation. He owns The Columbian-Progress, as well as about 20 other newspapers, mostly in Mississippi.
Members of the roast panel are Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, MPA lobbyist Hayes Dent, attorney Wilson Carroll, restaurateur and businessman Jeff Good and retired Enterprise-Journal Publisher Charlie Dunagin. Marshall Ramsey, editor-at-large of Mississippi Today and a host for Mississippi Public Broadcasting, will act as Roastmaster for the evening.
“It’s going to be a really fun evening, and we’re looking forward to having many MPA members in the audience to enjoy the show,” said MPAEF Chairman Paul Keane, publisher of The Wayne County News and Franklin Advocate. “We are very grateful to Wyatt for contributing to this great cause.”
Founded in 1990, the MPAEF Celebrity Roast has honored over two dozen notable Mississippians to raise money for journalism scholarships and internships.
BlueCross BlueShield of Mississippi is Diamond Sponsor of the event. Gold Sponsors are the Mississippi Economic Council and Bigger Pie Forum.
Tickets are $80 for general admission or $50 for MPA members. You may purchase them online or by calling (601) 981-3060.
