“I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;” Micah 2:12a (NKJV)
What is the Remnant? The rest, the residue, the remainder, those who are left standing after God chastises His people. The first remnant was Noah and His family. Even though God destroyed the world with a great flood, He saved a remnant of eight souls to re-populate the earth.
Who are the Remnant? Those who trust and obey God. Those few who really believe what God’s word says and persevere in their quest to be obedient. The remnant are those who are in it for the duration, for the long haul, even when the way is difficult. Noah trusted God not just for a short while, but over the 100 years that it took him to build the ark. We get anxious if God doesn’t deliver by breakfast.
God has many times in history sent Israel into captivity or chastised them, yet He always preserved a remnant, a faithful few to begin again. When the Israelites rebelled and would not go into the Promised Land God sent them into the desert for forty more years. Yet He preserved a remnant, only Joshua and Caleb lived to enter Canaan, all those adults who refused died in the wilderness. For forty years they wandered while the remnant was being prepared to enter the promised land.
A remnant was saved after Babylon and later Persia had conquered and taken them into captivity, still later the Romans persecuted and killed Christians. In modern time Hitler and Stalin killed tens of millions of Jews. God preserved for Himself a remnant to rebuild His people.
Today God is preparing a Remnant to revive His Church and be with Him in His kingdom. Who are these of the Remnant? Those who are un-ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who are willing, in spite of their fear, to stand up and declare that Jesus is Lord, ready to stand and to serve and if need be to die. These are the Remnant, those forged in the fire of obedience, those who are left standing when all is said and done. Revelation 2&3 Every letter to the seven churches states–“To him who overcomes” The Remnant are those who overcome. Are you part of God’s Remnant? Will you endure to the end and be saved? Matthew 24:13.
