Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Goss Baptist Church for Mr. Ben Ray Buckley, 60, of Columbia, who died on Aug. 2, at his residence. Interment followed in Society Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Mark McArthur officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until the time of the services on Friday, Aug. 4, at Goss Baptist Church.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1956, in Columbia. “Minner” was a retired oilfield worker and a member of Goss Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and cook. He was probably best known for the stories that he told and he had plenty to tell. Ben Ray stories will go on forever. He was for sure, “one hot mess.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Al Buckley; brother-in-law, Stanley Johnson and father-in-law, Thomas “Tomcat” Sandifer.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Sandifer Buckley; son, Michael Harrell; daughters, Carlye Harrell and Summer Faust; two grandsons, Preston Harrell and Caleb Faust; mother, Dot Buckley; brother, Ronald Buckley (Carolyn); sister, Pegi Buckley Johnson; niece, Angi Buckley Earls (Mike); nephews, Steve Rayburn of Diamondhead and David Johnson of Hattiesburg; great nieces, Malori Ard and Madi Ard; great nephews, Parker Earls, Ryder Earls and Jagger Earls.
