Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Monroeville First Baptist Church for Billy Carson Bond, 84, of Monroeville, Ala., who died on Saturday, Aug. 5. Interment followed at Pineville Cemetery. The Rev. Glen Eubanks officiated at the services. Visitation was held from
1 p.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Monroeville First Baptist Church.
He was born in Columbia and grew up on his grandfather’s, M.E. Bond Sr., farm located on Gates Road in the Petty community. He graduated from Improve High School. His wife of 65 years, Evelyn Stringer Bond, the daughter of Ben A. Stringer and Ophie Stringer, was raised in the Improve community. At the time of his death, he and Evelyn were residents of Monroeville, Alabama. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroeville, Alabama. He was a Free Mason.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Mississippi National Guard and served during the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University in forestry and a registered forester in the state of Alabama. He graduated from Jones Law School in Montgomery, Ala., with a Juris Doctor degree in law and was a member of the Alabama Bar.
He spent his career in the forest products industry. During his distinguished career, he held the notable positions of corporate vice president of Hammermill Paper Co. Inc., president of Allegheny Railroad Inc. and president of Harrigan Lumber Co. Inc. He retired as president of Alabama River Woodlands Inc. in 2000.
He served in numerous capacities in professional, civic and in governmental organizations. He was inducted into the Society of Foresters Hall of Fame at Auburn University.
He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Bond; mother, Jewell Garrett Bond Johnson and sister, Linda G. James.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Stringer Bond; his son, Mark Bond (Dianne); daughter, Jennifer Amundsen (Mark); grandchildren, Mary Carson and William Bond and step grandchildren, Taylor, Avery, and Johnny Amundsen.
