Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Elmo Omega Harrison, 94, of Columbia, who died on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at his residence. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born in Coffeeville. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He attended Ole Miss and was a member of the ROTC. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. In 1956, he opened his State Farm insurance agency in Columbia.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where he was involved in many different activities. He was a member of the Columbia Lions Club. In the 1950s, he had a radio program on WCJU. He was humorist and loved to play the guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edd and Maude Harrison, and son, James Harrison.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Glenn Harrison of Columbia; son, Glenn Harrison (Cindy); daughter, Mary Beth Harrison of Columbia; grandchild, Melissa L. Loberg (Michael) of Safety Harbor, Fla.; great-grandchildren, McKinley P. Loberg and Peyton Makai Loberg, both of Safety Harbor, Fla.
Pallbearers were Jack Shepard, Drew Carpenter, Davis Lee, Bobby Bush, Tim Magee and Rob Schepers. Honorary pallbearers were The Lions Club of Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Columbia building fund.
