Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Improve Baptist Church for Eula Morris Watts, 97, of Columbia, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, in Hattiesburg after suffering from a fall at her home earlier in the day. Burial followed in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She lived most of her life in the Improve community of Marion County except for approximately four years she spent in Southern Indiana prior to World War II and until the middle of the war. She was a retired factory worker and longtime choir member of Improve Baptist Church where she was a fixture and will be sorely missed especially by those who loved her caramel cakes. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest member of Improve.
She was predeceased by her parents, Cassie and Matilda Morris; husband Charles Watts; all four of her siblings, Buck Morris, Dan Morris, George Morris and Lillie Smith, and three of her four children as well, Charlotte Pennell, Steve Watts and Mark Watts.
Survivors include one son, David Watts (Judy); one son-in-law, Kenneth Pennell, two daughters-in-law, Vermell Watts and Jo Ann Watts; one niece, Beth Watts Herrington, who was like a daughter to her; 12 grandchildren, Damon Watts, Chris Watts, Carroll Watts, Charles Watts, Morris Watts, Ashley Watts, Andrew Watts, George Pennell, Kevin Pennell, Michael Herrington, John Herrington and LeAnne Kirby; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patsy Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International, Batson Children's Hospital, St. Jude or the charity of your choice.
