Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Mrs. Helen Frances Dale Rochinski, 95, of Forest, who died on Thursday, Jan. 4, after a brief illness. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Ward and Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday, Jan. 7, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was a long-time resident of Columbia and more recently Forest, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. She was the youngest of four children born to Sam B. and Allie May Jones Dale. She graduated from Columbia High School and Draughon’s Business School. She worked at the U.S. Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C., during World War II, where she met her future husband Edward Rochinski. They married in Mississippi and made their home in Columbia, where she had a career at the Selective Service System of the federal government.
After her retirement, she enjoyed many hobbies and activities up until her death. Some of those included senior bowling, where she won numerous medals in the National Senior Olympics, playing bridge and dominoes, exercising, gardening, cooking, sewing and making quilts. She was an active member of Forest Baptist Church. She was blessed to have been able to be involved in the lives of her five grandchildren as well as her 12 great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved by them all.
She was an amazing woman who was an inspiration to many. She was an example of selfless love, humility and dignity. She had a true servant’s heart and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward, to whom she was married for 52 years; brothers, Lawrence Dale and Sam B. Dale Jr., and sister, Katherine McCown.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Broome (David) of Baton Rouge, La. and Margaret Chance (Tony) of Forest; grandchildren, Randy Broome (Missy) of Vicksburg, Lindsay Nixon (Eric) of Cullman, Ala., Rebecca Broome of Abbeville, La., Haley Bounds (Corey) of Newton and Drew Chance (Candace) of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Macy Broome, Bo Broome, Brooks Broome, Kase Nixon, Lily Claire Nixon, Lakynn Nixon, Brantley Broome, Maggie Bounds, Chance Bounds and Brady Bounds, Logan Chance and Keeton Chance; three special nieces and one nephew.
