Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for James L. Powell, 81, of Prairieville, La., who passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Gonzales, La. Burial followed in Morgantown Cemetery. The Rev. Cory Odom officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born in Foxworth and spent much of his life doing electrical work in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. He faithfully served our nation in the United States Air Force. Everyone knew of James' hard work ethic and willingness to always help others. He loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR and often attended races at Talladega Motor Speedway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ervin and Mazie Price Powell; his late wife, Shirley Ann Bordelone Powell; one brother, Carlton Robert Powell, and one granddaughter, Christy "Chrissy" Aldridge.
Survivors include his three daughters, Penny Mae Powell Aldridge (Troy) of Prairieville, La. and Tavia Lynn Powell and Tonya Elizabeth Powell, both of Ohio; one step-daughter, Alice Marie Duhe (Craig) of Livingston, La.; one sister, Delores Mildred Williams of Poplarville; two brothers, Donnie Rex Powell (Jewell) and Reggie Powell, both of Foxworth; one sister-in-law, Sara Jane Powell of Marianna, Fla.; six grandchildren and number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Brett Wayne Powell, Terry Gail Powell, Donnie Dean Powell, Blake Wayne Powell, Jerry Williamson and Frankie Palmer.
