Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Hathorn Funeral Home for John Doyle Rowley, 79, of Hattiesburg, who passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Hattiesburg surrounded by his family. Burial followed in Darbun Cemetery. The Rev. Brian Williams officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born on June 15, 1938, to John Timothy Rowley and Josephine Foil Rowley in Marion County.
Mr. Rowley was married to his wife, Kathryn, for 51 years and together they had one daughter, Teresa, and two grandchildren, Alden and Hollyn. The couple initially lived in the Hepzibah community where Mrs. Rowley played organ for Hepzibah Baptist Church and he served as deacon. Mr. and Mrs. Rowley made Hattiesburg their home in 2002 and were members of Hepzibah Baptist Church. Mr. Rowley was a school teacher and administrator for 40 years in the public school system and retired in 2000 after working for Jackson Public Schools, Marion County Schools and Lawrence County School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, J.C. Rowley (Wilda Lee), Ida Mae Copeland (Hollis), Carrol Rowley (Eris), Hugh Rowley (Marvin) and Ovie Rowley Morgan, and his nephews, John Carrol Rowley, Roy Copelin, Timothy Copelin and Michael Rowley.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Speights Rowley; daughter, Teresa Rowley McDaniel of Hattiesburg; two grandchildren, Alden Kathryn McDaniel and Hollyn Faith McDaniel of Hattiesburg; one brother, Sedgie “Runt” Rowley (Jewel, deceased) of Oak Vale and 14 nieces and nephews, Dana Speights Walker, Dawn Speights Greenlee (Kelly), Dannell Speights Roberts (Scott), Stevie Rowley (Theresa), Debra Lee, Larry Copelin (Tricia), Shirley McKenzie, Toni McKenzie, Linda Neal, Anita Jo Carney, Pam McRaney (Robert), Kim Milling (Steve), Janet Myers and Lisa Cooley.
Hathorn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
