A celebration of life was held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at First Baptist Church Brandon, New Campus, for Josie Summer Walker, 73, of Brandon, who passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, at her residence. Burial followed in Crestview Memorial Gardens. Dr. Chip Henderson and Rev. Don Lum officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at First Baptist Church Brandon, New Campus.
Josie was born in Columbia on Dec. 11, 1944, to the late Clyde Summer and Louise Newsom Summer. She taught school in Marion County, Forest and Columbia. She served as psychometrist in Columbia and Rankin County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon. Mee Mee loved her children and grandchildren. Her highlight was cooking lunch for all the family on Sunday after church.
She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Summer and Harold “Buddy” Summer.
Survivors include her husband of more than 47 years, Milton “Hoot” Walker of Brandon; four children, Stacey McCann (Steve) of Hernando, Christi Walker of Brandon, Gage Walker (Carrie) of Flowood and Brent Walker (Katie) of Brandon; nine grandchildren Andrew McCann, Cailey Walker, Addy McCann, Lainey Walker, Emmie Walker, Lela Walker, William Walker, Maggie Walker and James Walker; stepmother, Grace Robbins (Pete) of Columbia; two siblings, Margaret Williford of Quitman, Texas and John Summer (Barbara) of Brandon, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warriors.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bobby Wilkerson and the nurses at Jackson Oncology and Sta-Home Health for their compassionate care, love and support.
