Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Larry Kent Bullock, 73, of Columbia, who passed away on Friday, July 14, at his residence. Interment followed in Pine Burr Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Don Armagost and the Rev. Allen Turnage officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was a 1962 graduate of Hub High School and attended Pearl River Junior College where he played basketball for two years. After serving in the Army National Guard, he worked in the banking and finance industry for many years in both Columbia and Hattiesburg before becoming vice-president of Foxworth Bank. He was active in the community as a member of the Marion County Jaycees, the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and the Marion County Cattlemen’s Association for many years. He served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon of Pine Burr Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and coon hunting immensely. He recently retired from Southern Monument Company in Foxworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ordie and Minnie Lee Bullock and his brother, Danny Bullock, all from the Enon community in Marion County.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Norma Joan Day Bullock; two daughters, Lisa Joan Amacker (Brad) of Petal and Cynthia Llyn Shields (Christopher) of Columbia; two sisters, Martha Nell Toney (Jack) of Kokomo and Joyce McIntosh (Reggie) of Bellevue; one sister-in-law, Beverly Bullock (Danny) of Columbia; one grandson, John Brady Amacker of Petal; three granddaughters, Amanda Catherine Shields of Columbia, Joan Elizabeth Amacker of Petal and Morgan Leigh Shields of Columbia and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Brad Amacker, Christopher Shields, Mickey Branton, Raymond Jeffcoat, Benjamin Sones and Terry Thornton. Honorary pallbearers were John Brady Amacker, Louis Polk, Louis Wayne Batson, Gerald Leming and Kim Ramshur.
