Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Improve Baptist Church for Mary Lou Broome, 96, of Brownsboro, Ala., who died on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at her residence. Burial followed in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Darel Daniels officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Colonial Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday, Jan. 5, at Improve Baptist Church.
A native of Columbia, she was a baker and operated her own bakery. She was a member of Improve Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Broome; parents, Stanley and Maudie Watts; sister, Ida Breeland, and brothers, Harvey Watts, Henry Watts and Stanley Watts, Jr.
Survivors include her two daughters, Joyce Moody (Carl) of Brownsboro, Ala. and Lynda Fernandez (Ken) of Hampton Cove, Ala.; son, Terry Broome (Laura) of Columbia; sister, Minnie Ruth Stringer of Columbia; brother, David Allen Watts (Bernice) of Hattiesburg; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Tammy, Tasha, Leigh, Ryan, Tia and Tatum; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Jeff Moody, Joseph Nation, Luke Beasley, Sam Hathorn, Vernon Watts and Stan Watts. Honorary pallbearers were Ike Broome and Benjamin Nation.
