Charlie James “C.J” McLeod

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Cook Galloway Funeral Home for Charlie James “C.J.” McLeod, 84, of Columbia. Burial will follow in Hub Community Cementery. Rev. Linda Dixon and David Bryant will be officiating at the services. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Cook Galloway Funeral Home.
He was the oldest child born on May 4, 1935, in Columbia to Johnnie and Letha Mae McLeod. During his earlier years of life, he helped his mother take care of the family.
He married and moved to Wichita, Kan., and then to New Orleans, where he joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and later to Word of Faith. When he moved back home, he joined Hub Chapel where he attended faithful until his health failed.
He married Lonnie Mae “Sunny” Boone-McLeod on June 4, 1957, a marriage that lasted until her death on Feb. 21, 2011. They had five sons, Charley McLeod Jr., Johnie McLeod (Tre), Frank McLeod (Shelly), Joey McLeod (Kim) and Jamie McLeod (Liz Barnes).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lonnie Mae “Sunny” Boone-McLeod; parents, Johnny McLeod and Letha Mae Alford, and brother, Edward Earl McLeod.
He leaves to cherish his memory his five sons; two sisters, Stella Mae Segura and Julia Belle McLeod; one brother, Jerry McLeod (Helen); two stepsisters, Osie Lee and Antonie; four sisters-in-law, Jewel L. Kohnke’, Jean Tate, Christeen Owens and Stacy Boone; four brothers-in-law, Jon Segura, Horace Tate, Howard Boone and Steve James; 12 grandchildren, Charley III, Casey Lynn, Kateri’, Jonsha, Jonathan, Jermaine, Frank Jr., Joey Jr., Joniqu, Jomyla, Jowan and Cameron; four great-grandchildren, Payton, Lavar Jr., Jaylon and Cameron and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
His memories will be cherished by his family and friends.
