Esther S. Patterson
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, in Woodlawn Cemetery for Esther S. Patterson, 96, of Columbia, who died on Monday, April 27. Bro. Dewitt Bain officiated at the service.
She was born in Merritt Island, Fla., and her family moved to Mississippi when she was nine years old. She has been a resident of Marion County for many years and was a member of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, genealogy research and was a professional seamstress who worked with Pioneer and Movie Star. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be remembered for her devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rheda Beth Morgan; a son, Donald “Buster” Patterson; and a grandson, David Goar.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris Goar; son, Von O. “Odie” Patterson; two brothers, Levi Smith and Bud Smith; 11 grandchildren, Vicki Goar Powe (Steve), Dennis Goar (Connie), Warren Bennett, Emily Ramshur (Chad), Stephanie Morgan, Glen Patterson (Cindy), Vonda Kay Blackwell (Scott), Renee Broom (Jeff), Sheryl Patterson, Wade Patterson and Heather Davis (Jerry); 16 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Glenn Patterson, Warren Bennett, Andrew Moree, Manton Broom, Steve Powe and Cody Flynt.
Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
