Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery for Stanley Virgil Broom, 77, of Pearl, who died on Sunday, May 31. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1942, in Columbia. He was a mentor to hundreds and a friend to all.
He was an expert in the automotive repair business, starting his craft by opening Broom Body Shop in 1967. Seeing the best in everyone, he mentored numerous young men, helping them develop skills that would forever play a part in their life.
Many of the things he enjoyed in life were riding motorcycles across the country, gardening around his house, sharing his passion for cars with his grandsons and having discussions about Scripture with anyone who would listen. He will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Gloria Hutson Broom; his parents, Theodore Broom and Esther Polk Broom.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Sandra Polk Womack Broom; daughters, Dody Broom Sullivan (Don) and Amanda Broom Rhodes (B.J.); sister, JoAnn Graham; grandchildren, Josh Belt (Jennifer), Jake Belt (Ashley), McCall Stern (Hardy), Blake Ramage (Shanna), Baylee Rhodes and Brody Rhodes and four great-grandchildren.
