Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at Hathorn Funeral Home for Phyllis Hammond, 86, of Columbia, who passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, in Knoxville, Tenn. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Millard Moak and Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She loved her family and considered her church and work like second families to her. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia. She was employed with Save On Drugs in Columbia for over forty years, where she was still working part-time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Daniel and Sara Inis Berry; husband of 61 years, Harold Douglas Hammond Sr.; sister, Pauline Webb and grandchild, Cody Hammond.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosalind Mikell (John) of Columbia; son, Harold Douglas Hammond Jr. (Angie) of Columbia; sister, Dorothy Fussell of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Leigh Baugh (Chris) and Brandon Bell (Rebecca), both of Hattiesburg, Derrick Bell (Lace) and Kayla Hammond, both of Columbia; and five great-grandchildren, Allana Newman, Lexie Newman, Audrey Bell, Bentley Hammond and Carter.
Pallbearers were Derrick Bell, Brandon Bell, Chris Baugh, Robbie Hammond, Robbie McDaniel and Danny Fussell.
A special thanks to Bro. Millard Moak and his wife, Melinda, for spiritual and emotional support during her short illness and death.
