Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Bassfield Baptist Church for Mrs. Rheda Bob Carter, 91, of Bassfield, who died on Sunday, Dec. 17, in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Roberts officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Bassfield Baptist Church.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1926, in Jefferson Davis County to Stanley Dean and Mamie Magee Dean. She was a factory worker in the garment industry. She was a member of Bassfield Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Gilbert Carter; four sisters, Mattie Nell Hall Aultman, Iva Dale McRaney, Waynett Ward and Ann Chambliss, and two brothers, Jim Dean and Knox Dean.
Survivors include her daughter, Rita Fay Armstrong (Bobby) of Columbia; two sons, Kent Carter (Patrice) of Bassfield and Randy Carter (Teresa) of Hattiesburg; seven granddaughters, Shannon Yawn (Keith) of Hattiesburg, Amy Johnson (Chris) of Columbia, Ashley Carter (Todd) of Redwood City, Calif., Kelly Mitchell (Anthony) of Jackson, Katie Romberger (Austin) of Cypress, Texas, Hannah Clary (Cliff) of Centreville, Va. and Ali Carter (fiancé-Jonathan) of Lakeland, Fla. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Danny Kerley, Johnny Kerley, Jimmy Kerley, Chris Johnson, Keith Yawn and Henry Rich. Honorary pallbearers were Donna Ratliff and Ronnie Shivers.
