Thekla “Tiger” Lowery Stringer

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia for Thekla “Tiger” Lowery Stringer, 87, of Columbia who died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Hattiesburg Health & Rehab. Bro. Randy Gardner, pastor of Bunker Hill Baptist Church, officiated the service.
She was born in Worth am Rhein, Germany, on May 12, 1930. As a longtime resident of Marion County, Ms. Stringer loved camping, fishing and crocheting. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Friedrich and Louisa Phister; her husbands, Leroy Lowery and Lyndol Stringer; one son, Gerhard “Gary” Lowery Sr.; and a great-grandson, Kurt Bourne.
She is survived by her son, Kurt Lowery (Sheron) of Columbia; one step-daughter, Teresa Haddox of Foxworth; two step-sons, Terry Stringer and his wife, Teresa, and Lyn Stringer, all of Foxworth; nine grandchildren, Leigh Bourne, Scott Lowery, Gary Lowery Jr., Jonathan Lowery, Rita Gibbs, Todd Fortenberry, Brandie Vanpeski, Scotty Stringer and Josh Stringer; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
