Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Thomas Roy Foxworth, 89, of Foxworth, who passed from this life on Monday, July 31, in Columbia. Interment followed in Pearl River Missionary Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Richard Magee and Bro. Yancy Magee officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, and from noon until the time of the services on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Thomas served faithfully in the National Guard and for a short stint in the United States Army. After his medical discharge, he came home to support his mother and younger siblings. His love for sports led him to play basketball at Columbia High School and later he become a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also supported both Mississippi State and Southern Miss athletics. He worked 34 years with Exxon. As a lifelong member of Pearl River Missionary Baptist Church, he served as deacon for 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. and Elizabeth W. Foxworth; five brothers, Charles E. Foxworth, Larkin W. Foxworth, Clifford L. Foxworth, Jobie S. Foxworth and John F. Foxworth; and three sisters, Gladys F. Brown, Lolette Foxworth and Vickie F. Kennedy.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Vergie Foxworth of Foxworth; two daughters, Paula Fortenberry (Jim) of Franklinton, La. and Stephanie Lee (Al) of Poplarville; one son, Jeff Foxworth (Janet) of Hattiesburg; one brother, Emmet A. Foxworth (Muriel) of Marrero, La.; one sister, Mildred F. Harrell of Sandy Hook; six grandchildren, Dustin Fortenberry (Stephanie) of Youngsville, La., Shayla Cooper (Brett) of Franklinton, La., Dana Moree (Josh) of Clinton, Lori Foxworth (Zach Parker) of Seminary, Jodi Foxworth of Wesson and Jadon Lee of Poplarville; four great-grandchildren; close family members, Garland and Patsy Martin of Foxworth and Patricia Rutland and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dustin Fortenberry, Jadon Lee, Josh Moree, Zach Parker, Brett Cooper, Tim Foxworth, Benny Kennedy and Sam Foxworth. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Harrell and the men of Pearl River Missionary Baptist Church.
