Van and Mary Lowry Jr. marked their 50th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2018. They were married at Valley Forge Army Hospital in Phoenixville, Pa.
Van is the son of the late Van and Yvonne Lowry Sr. of Hattiesburg. Mary is the daughter of the late W. Clark and Lucy Robertson of the Goss community.
Van is retired from the U.S. Army and the Family Y in Hattiesburg.
Mary taught school in the various places they were stationed and retired from the Office of Graduate Admissions at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The Lowrys were stationed with the Army in a variety of locations to include Pennsylvania, Hawaii, New York, Louisiana, Germany and Vietnam. Over the years, they also traveled to many international locations on vacations.
A family celebration marking their 50th anniversary was held earlier this year at Mack’s West in Hattiesburg.
The Lowrys have three children, Major William Lowry (Tasha) of Sumrall, Michael Lowry (Kate) of Brandon and Vanya Willoughby (Mark) of Chantilly, Va, and four grandchildren, Desiree Lowry of Charlotte, N.C., Vanya Madison and Reagan Lowry of Sumrall and Zeke Van Lowry of Brandon.
Zeke marks the fifth generation to use the name “Van Lowry.”
