For the second year in a row, the West Marion Trojans will enter Region 8-3A play undefeated after topping Vancleave 33-7 on the road Friday night. Meanwhile, PCS proved to be too strong for Columbia Academy to handle on its homecoming night in a lopsided 41-22 loss, and East Marion won a shootout at Bogalusa 48-44.
Presbyterian Christian at Columbia Academy
The Cougars matched the Bobcats early on in the first quarter as Riles Stuart found pay dirt from 1 yard out following PCS’ opening drive ended in a touchdown. But from then on it was all PCS as the Bobcats scored 34 unanswered points to pull away.
Columbia Academy did find some late life, though, as Stuart had rushing touchdowns of 12 and 71 yards in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars (1-5) will go on the road next week to face Lamar School.
West Marion at Vancleave
The Trojans (6-0) rode their strong defense to another victory and have now allowed just 27 points in six games, an average of just 4.5.
West Marion’s offense went over 30 points for the fifth time in six games, and the Trojans are rolling into district play. The Trojans will be at Jefferson Davis County (2-3) next Friday night. The Jaguars were on a bye this week and lost to Hattiesburg 28-27 last week.
East Marion at Bogalusa (La.)
After jumping out to an early 12-0 lead, the Eagles found themselves in a seesaw affair all night with the Lumberjacks. The lead changed hands eight times as they went touchdown for touchdown. The Eagles took a 42-36 midway through the fourth quarter on a fumble return for a touchdown, but the Lumberjacks answered with a score of their own with three minutes left to go back up 44-42. East Marion answered right back, though, to seal the deal with a minute left in the game.
The Eagles () begin district play at home next week in their homecoming game against Perry Central.
The Columbia Wildcats (5-0) were on a bye this week and begin district play at Tylertown next Friday.
