West Marion and East Marion both picked up big blowout victories, while Columbia Academy was on the receiving end in its showdown with West.
Trojans cruise against CA
From nearly the opening kickoff until the final buzzer, West Marion controlled the action on the road in a 46-8 win over Columbia Academy.
West Marion’s DonTavious McGowan intercepted CA’s Ras Pace on the opening drive of the game then was on the receiving end of a 24-yard touchdown from Jeremiah Holmes for the first score of the game. Then Daqwan Jones intercepted, setting up a 29-yard touchdown pass from Holmes to Noland Miller Jr.
The Trojans scored three more times in the first half on a 33-yard pass from Holmes to Miller, a two-yard run by Holmes and an 85-yard punt return by Jartavious Martin.
The Cougars found pay dirt on the final play of the game on a 15-yard run by Drew Havard.
Columbia Academy (2-4) and West Marion (6-0) both have their homecomings next Friday night. The Cougars host Simpson Academy, and the Trojans host Seminary.
Eagles top Salem 48-0
East Marion got on the board quickly and kept scoring to surge to a 48-0 Homecoming victory over Salem Friday night at Leslie Peters Field.
Wanya Cook put the Eagles on the board first with a 20-yard run with 11:35 to go in the first quarter to give the Eagles at 6-0 advantage. By the end of the first quarter, East Marion led 12-0.
Quarterback Devin Daniels dominated the second quarter scoring on runs of 5 and 52 yards to lead the Eagles to a 28-0 lead at the half.
The dominance continued in the third quarter as Wanya Cook scored again and then Daniels found Flenard McLin on a 13-yard score to make it 42-0 at the end of the third.
East Marion scored one more time in the fourth quarter as Demetrius Allen ran it in from 18 yards out to make it 48-0.
The Eagles take on Lumberton next Friday.
