Next up for West Marion is Forrest County AHS (1-2), who is coming off a 17-14 loss to Bay High School. West Marion has faced the Aggies each of the last four years, winning three, including a 38-19 victory a year ago.
Head coach Brad Duncan said there are a lot of distractions this week because of homecoming, and the Trojans need to be focused on the task at hand.
“They have to remember their part of homecoming starts at 7 o’clock,” he said. “Forrest County will probably be the best team we’ve played so far out of the three. They’re a lot like us. They try to ground and pound, and they have a handful of big, physical kids that can really make a difference.”
Duncan added the Aggies like to use trap and wham running plays with their quarterback Devonte Dixon and control the clock with their rushing attack.
Dixon has only thrown 10 passes this year but has rushed for 342 yards and five touchdowns on 45 carries.
Duncan also said they like to lull opponents to sleep then take a shot with a trick play at least once a game. Defensively the Aggies load the box with a 5-2 defense (five linemen, two linebackers) and play press man coverage on the outside.
Kickoff is at 7 Friday night in Foxworth.
The Eagles, meanwhile, will head to Morton (1-2), who has lost consecutive games to Scott Central and Newton County by a combined score of 92-7 after opening the year with a 30-14 victory over Newton.
Eagles head coach Kevin Jackson said the preparation for Morton begins with improving from within and getting better at tackling, blocking and running.
