All three Marion County teams in action Thursday night were victorious with Columbia remaining undefeated, West Marion picking up its ninth win and East Marion clinching a district title.
Columbia vs. Seminary
The Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) cruised through their ninth win of the season, beginning with Teshonne Franklin picking off a Seminary pass on the first play from scrimmage. Four plays later, Kentrel Bullock was in the end zone on a 17-yard run on a toss sweep.
Late in the second quarter, Omarie Johnson broke off a 56-yard run to the Seminary 1 after trucking a defender and breaking into the open field. Bullock capped off the drive with a 2-yard score to give Columbia a 13-0 lead going into halftime.
Columbia wasted no time adding to the lead on the opening drive of the second half as Bullock added touchdown No. 3 on a 24-yard run. On the Wildcats’ next drive, it was Johnson who got into the end zone on a 3-yard carry up the gut to make it 25-0.
Johnathan Wiltz punctuated the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and Jamison Kelly intercepted a pass late to put the cherry on top.
Columbia travels to Magee next Friday with the Region 8-3A title on the line.
West Marion at Tylertown
Despite having several key playmakers out, the Trojans (9-1, 3-1) jumped on the Chiefs (3-7, 0-4) big in the first half and coasted to a 42-13 road victory.
West Marion closes out its regular season next Friday at home against Seminary (5-5, 1-3).
East Marion at North Forrest
The Eagles (7-2, 4-0) clinched the Region 8-2A title with an 8-0 road win over North Forrest (3-6, 1-2) in a defensive stalemate.
East Marion got on the board in the first quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run by Jadarrius Mallard that proved to be all the offense the Eagles needed. East Marion made two goal-line stands in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
East Marion has a bye next week and will host a playoff game Nov. 8 as a No. 1 seed in the Class 2A playoffs.
