The Columbia 11u all-stars are in a unique position having already clinched a berth in the state tournament without playing a single game.
Due to most parks electing to have their best 11-year-olds play up with their 12u teams, there are only two 11u teams in the district this year: Columbia and Sumrall.
The coaches were offered a chance to simply flip a coin to see which team would secure the first or second seed from the district when they head to state but opted to play one another to truly earn the top distinction.
Columbia and Sumrall will square off Friday night at 7 to decide the de facto district champion crown at Sumrall. Columbia 11u will not play another official game until its state tournament in Laurel, which begins July 6.
Columbia 11u includes Austin Baughman, Mikell Thomas Breland, Ayden Buckley, Nik Carney, Roman Lawrence, Trace McDonald, Caden Mingo, Cameron Rogers, Dillon Rowley and Jackson Speir and coaches Matt Carney (head), Keith Baughman and Gannon Rogers.
