The Columbia 8u All-Stars made the most of their trip down U.S. Hwy. 98 to Hattiesburg, going a perfect 5-0 at Tatum Park to claim the district title.
Columbia 8u got the ball rolling with a 15-0 win over St. Martin to start the tournament before topping Poplarville 18-3. The All-Stars kept their foot on the gas, beating Hattiesburg American 10-0 and Poplarville 18-1 to advance to the title game against Hattiesburg National.
Hattiesburg National didn’t prove to be stiffer competition for the Columbia 8u All-Stars as the Marion County team cruised to a 16-0 victory.
Head coach Doug McMichael believes his team is really starting to come together in all phases.
“We played great defense, committing less than five errors all tournament,” he said. “Our offense is really starting together. Corbin Lawrence, Reed Duncan, Carter McMichael and Carson Stuart have been our most consistent hitters so far.”
The Columbia 8u All-Stars travel to Brookhaven Friday night for the state tournament with play beginning at 7:30 p.m.
