Sub-district play got underway Friday, and Columbia 8u proved to be a force to be reckoned with in Sand Hill.
The young sluggers clubbed the competition, besting Sumrall 19-4, Poplarville 16-1 and Greene County 18-6 in blowout fashion.
“I can’t do anything but brag on the guys,” head coach John Gay said. “They hit the ball very well, there was a lot of good base running and made some good plays (defensively).”
After averaging 17.7 runs per game in its first three games, the all-star team will be heading to play in its district tournament this weekend at Tatum Park in Hattiesburg with its first game at 6 p.m. Friday.
“If we play the way we did (in sub-district), there won’t be a problem,” Gay said.
Columbia 8u includes Caleb Boone, Cooper Brady, Noah Dubois, Parker Dykes, Carson Elkins, Billy Fisher, Ryles Gay, Gil Giles, Johnathan Lowery, Kipten Reid, Braxton Sandifer and Alex Sinclair and coaches Josh Boone, Ashley Reid and Jason Brady.
