The Columbia 9u all-stars won perhaps the most memorable game of the weekend in an extra-inning thriller Saturday morning, but they lost their other two games of the state tournament in Laurel and were eliminated Saturday night.
After losing to the eventual state champ, Philadelphia, Friday night 13-0, Columbia 9u found itself in a back-and-forth affair with Laurel National Saturday morning with its back against the wall. It took three extra innings and a number of clutch plays, but
Columbia pulled off the exhilarating victory 10-8 in the eighth inning.
However, a bad defensive inning ended the all-stars’ season in the nightcap in a 12-6 loss to Laurel American.
“We did really well, but they had one big inning and with that one big inning they kind of just ran away with it,” head coach Jason Brady said. “We had last bat, but we didn’t answer back. That one big inning killed us.”
Despite being eliminated Brady said he couldn’t be more proud of the effort and commitment his squad showed this summer.
“We played great at district; we played awesome. We had a great group of kids and a great group of parents. I’m very pleased with our team with what we accomplished,” he said.
