Football tickets at Columbia High School for regular season games will increase from $6 to $7 this season.
The school board voted to allow the increase during a special meeting Tuesday while also approving an all-sports pass for $70 that could save money for families with athletes in several sports and avid Wildcat fans.
“Most of the school districts around have increased fees from $6 to $7 and some have even gone to $8,” Superintendent Jason Harris said. “It won’t make a drastic difference in the athletic budget as we only have four home games this season for football. For playoffs, the Mississippi High School Activities Association sets the fees. The first two rounds are $7 and North/South State Championships are $10.”
CHS opens at Richton Aug. 17, and its home opener is Aug. 24 versus in-county rival East Marion.
At the request of Athletic Director Loren Monk, the board also unanimously approved the all-sports pass. The pass does not include reserved seating for football games, which is an additional $30. If purchasing reserved football seats only, the fee would be $40.
“Some people come to a lot of events and it adds up,” Harris said. “This way they can pay an upfront fee for all home sporting events. This pass does not include the cost for playoff games since those are set by the MHSAA. We thought this would be a great way to do it. Mr. Monk said he’s had several requests from fans that come to a lot of games.”
Harris noted that Monk had been working on the pass template and that the laminated cards will be available for purchase soon at the high school. It will also get you in junior high games.
In other action, the board:
- Approved the hiring of Nicole Holland Bass as Child Nutrition Program supervisor, Guy Copeland as a limited service expert substitute teacher for science and math and Jennifer Patterson as a teacher at Jefferson Middle School.
- Approved a cooperative transportation agreement in which the Jefferson Davis County School District provides transportation for its students placed in the CARES program in Hattiesburg at a daily rate of $76.
