The Columbia 10u all-stars flexed their muscles at Duckworth Park last weekend in sub-district play.
The squad beat its three opponents by a combined score of 49-0: besting Sumrall 15-0 Friday night, Duckworth 16-0 Saturday afternoon and Sumrall again Saturday night 18-0.
“We learned a lot of different things and had the opportunity to throw several different pitchers throughout the weekend,” head coach Hunter Forbes said. “We learned some good things and also learned some things we need to work on this week as we prepare for the district tournament this weekend.”
The eight-team, double-elimination district tournament will be played in Columbia at Dean Griner beginning Friday night. Columbia 10u will play Sumrall at 7:30 and would play the winner of the Perry County and Greene County game on Saturday.
“We just really need to focus on our plate discipline and make sure we’re swinging at good pitches. Also, we need to work the pitchers to get into some good hitter counts by making sure we’re jumping ahead early in the count,” Forbes said. “We need to be aggressive at the plate. More than anything we just want to make sure we have some good quality at-bats.”
Columbia 10u includes Braxton Albritton, Logan Buckley, Jack Carney, Ashton Daniels, Ryder Earls, Hagen Forbes, Carter Fortenberry, Logan Green, Kole Louge, Daniel Lowery, Owen Simmons and Kolby Stringer and coaches John Green and Ryan Stringer.
