Don’t look now but the West Marion Trojans have already doubled their win total from a year ago through just seven games and are entering Region 8-3A play with a winning record.
West Marion struggled mightily last season en route to a 2-16 record, but with the return of junior guard Qavonte Swanigan and the development of sophomores Larry Magee and Kobe Pittman the Trojans are 4-3 and have the potential to win some games in district competition.
In their lone game in the Wesson Holiday Shootout Dec. 28, the Trojans picked up a 40-36 win over Jefferson County, a fellow Class 3A program.
West Marion began district play on its home court Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The Trojans will go on the road Friday to take on Jeff Davis County, who is among the favorites to take home the district title.
