Columbia High School’s football season came to an end last Friday as the Wildcats dropped a 35-14 decision to Seminary at home on Senior Night.
The night began with a bang for Columbia as Dylan Henry scooped up a Bulldogs fumble and galloped 54 yards down the home sideline for a score with 4:48 left in the first quarter. Harrison Foxworth’s kick made it 7-0, a lead that would stand through the end of the first quarter.
On the second play of the second quarter, Seminary tied things up on a 1-yard run by Davion Martin and a PAT kick by Brazos Webb.
After CHS failed to mount a drive on the ensuing possession, the Wildcats punted and Seminary took over at its own 38-yard line.
The Bulldogs put together a string of short gains until Antonio Mobley ran inside the CHS 15-yard line before another score. Columbia blocked the PAT kick, but trailed 13-7 at the half.
Early in the third quarter, things looked good for the Wildcats as they blocked a field goal attempt with 8:17 left.
Beginning on its own 25, Columbia was then sparked by a 74-yard touchdown run by Kentrel Bullock and with Foxworth’s kick, the Wildcats took a 14-13 lead.
Things were looking up for the Wildcats, but Seminary answered with two more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 28-14 lead and added another score in the fourth quarter to make it 35-14, effectively claiming fourth place in the district.
Columbia ends its season at 3-7 and 1-4 in District 8-3A without qualifying for the playoffs.
Had the Wildcats won Friday night, they would have clinched a playoff berth as the fourth seed in the district.
Head coach James Harvey could not be reach for comment as of deadline Tuesday.
