County budget set

The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved the budget for the upcoming fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 at a specially called meeting Tuesday.
There was no increase in the property taxes for the new year. The board at a previous meeting moved some of the mills around to different accounts in an effort to prevent any tax increase.

City passes budget for upcoming year

Tuesday evening the Columbia Board of Aldermen passed the new budget for the upcoming fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. All five aldermen voted in favor of the budget.

County school board receive update

The Marion County School Board Monday evening received an update on how the beginning of the school has been including all the changes that have been implemented. The update included the virtual classes as well.
Superintendent Wendy Bracey said the students were doing a good job checking in class and distancing.

Deputy coroner dies in single car accident

A one-car vehicle accident Thursday evening claimed the life of the Marion County Deputy Coroner, when the car she was driving left the road and collided into a tree. Alicia Neal, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene by Walthall County Coroner Eric Steel.
