Marion County schools push back start to Aug. 10

At a standing room only special meeting this evening, the Marion County School Board voted to delay the start of the beginning of school until Aug. 10.

Parents and citizens expressed concerns about schools starting in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Roadblocks in Columbia discussed

A Columbia man who helped lead Black Lives Matter protests in June addressed the Board of Aldermen Tuesday to discuss police roadblocks.
Aric Newson said people are still concerned about the roadblocks and wanted to know if the Columbia Police Department is going to continue doing them.

Fraternity awards scholarships to CHS students

Man faces rape charge

A Sumrall man is facing a charge of rape - assault with intent to ravish.
Billy Ray Deen, 56, remained in the Marion County Jail as of press deadlines on a $50,000 bond for the alleged July 7 incident at a residence in the northeast part of the county. Deen was arrested on July 15.
