Firefighters help store manager raise funds for St. Jude

Columbia’s Walmart Store Manager Mike Lowery started running because his wife, Melinda, was a runner. Living in Memphis at the time, it simply made sense to take part in the St. Jude marathon.

That was in 2002 with the first marathon, and he and his family have been running in it every year since.

The test measures the air flow going in and leaving the body. The screening only takes a few minutes, but it offers a wealth of information.

Churches come together for musical

Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia beginning at 6 p.m. a combined choir will present a Christmas musical, “Tis the Season, Tis the Reason.”

The combined choir includes members of Calvary, New Hope and Improve Baptist churches. There are close to 60 people participating.

Appreciative of Christmas preparations

I am like most people in Marion County: excited for tonight’s festivities beginning with the Cruise-In, the parade, the lighting of downtown and Candlelight, Carols and Claus.

In this last month there have been a lot of activities, construction and preparation to make the start of the Christmas season spectacular.
