Dining tax hasn’t slowed sales

Columbia restaurants and hotels report business is running as usual since a tourism tax took effect July 1.

The 3 percent tax on dining and lodging was approved by 76 percent of voters in a May 6 referendum. The tax is to support tourism and park improvements as well as building a sportsplex.

July 27, 2019, will always be a day to remember for Asia Montgomery.

Columbia’s Miss Hospitality was named the third alternate in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality contest held in Hattiesburg – and on her 21st birthday, too. She received a $2,000 scholarship.

Columbia summer program teaches robotics

Robotics and robotic coding were the teaching tools used this summer at Columbia High School’s summer reading program.

Funded through the 21st Century Federal grant funds, the school used a STEM approach to encourage growth in reading and writing by offering a hands-on approach to building and coding robots.
