Elisha Moree defeated Joy Baughman in the Republican runoff Tuesday for Marion County chancery clerk in the race to succeed the retiring incumbent, Cass Barnes.

In other races Tuesday, Jessie Graham won for coroner, Brandon Rowell for District 1 Justice Court judge and Krae Morgan for District 1 constable.

Board of Supervisors' president unseated

The sixth time running for Marion County District 2 supervisor proved to be the charm Tuesday for John N. Moree.

He unseated incumbent Terry Broome in the Republican primary runoff with 790 votes (61 percent) to 508 votes (39 percent).

Bridges on 198 open

The primary route from the west end of Marion County to downtown Columbia reopened Tuesday after eight months.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation made repairs to the two bridges on Mississippi 198 that allowed them to be safely passable for car traffic. They’re posted at a weight limit of 12 tons.
